SLOUGH / WEST LONDON RESIDENTS PROTEST INCINERATORS!

On Saturday 4th December, residents of Slough, Colnbrook and West London came together in defiance against the proposed Colnbrook Incinerators. Following rousing speeches from several of these citizens, over 100 people marched on the Grundon site at Colnbrook, protesting against the plan to build two huge waste incinerators and releasing 50 black balloons to symbolise the dangerous pollution given out from incinerators.

RESIDENTS PROTEST MASS-BURNERS!
On Saturday 4th December, residents of Slough, Colnbrook and West London came together in defiance against the proposed Colnbrook Incinerators. Following rousing speeches from several of these citizens, over 100 people marched on the Grundon site at Colnbrook, protesting against the plan to build two huge waste incinerators and releasing 50 black balloons to symbolise the dangerous pollution given out from incinerators.
This protest was held in the run up to the 'extraordinary' Council meeting being held on Wednesday 8th December at Slough Town Hall. The meeting is devoted to the conflict over the waste burners and SAIN are demanding that the council vote for a public enquiry. To ensure a healthy dose of democratic accountability, SAIN are calling for everyone to attend this meeting, beginning with a protest at 6.00pm.
On Saturday, residents of the areas expecting to be worst affected by toxic and radioactive emmissions from the proposed mass-burners, joined together in Colnbrook village to hear angry and rousing speakers including Margeret Salisidis of Richmond FoE/SAIN, Bill Pery of W.London Stop the Incinerators, Danny Faith of Heathrow GMB, Nick Pledge of Windsor (SAIN) and Michelle Little of Langley (SAIN). Inspired by the speakers spirit of resistance and a personal heartfelt plea to the Borough Councillors to vote for a public enquiry at their meeting on Wednesday, the crowd proceeded to march on Grundon's site, demanding a halt to their ridiculous and potentially deadly plans.
In spite of the cold afternoon, the 100 strong group lifted their banners high, with messages such as "Stop the Incinerator at Colnbrook, Save our Children" and "The fight goes on!", and made their way to Grundon's. They also came armed with 50 black balloons (equiped with a 'return address' tag to find out how far they fly) and, upon reaching the site, released these to symbolise the poisonous emmissions from Incinerators. These drifted off (as anticipated) over West London, so if your in that area get in touch!! If anyone finds any of these balloons (black w/ a SAIN tag) please do return them to us, letting us know where they ended up, thanks!
SAIN wish to thank the Colnbrook Primary School for allowing us to keep warm inside their hall, and most of all to thank the people who joined us in protesting this potential nightmare. Be assured, one way or another we will stop Grundon in their tracks.
