Tali Fahima`s arrest prolonged today

Tali Fahima`s arrest prolonged today

Today the court led by judge Ariel Hazak approved Shabak`s (Shabak, AKA Shin Bet, AKA General Security Service) request to hold Tali Fahima in arrest for 11 more days in Shabak facilities, instead of continuing the administrative detention. The Shabak refused to say what are the new suspicions, they allegedly want to investigate her about, despite the judge's request to hear the details. The judge, who is not familiar with the previous materials in this case, accepted Shabak`s version and approved the detention.
It is unclear why Fahima was held for several months in detention if only now, as Shabak claims, they have found evidence that can enable them to bring her to trial.
We are aware that Tali Fahima`s name and fate is mentioned and used as a threat by Shabak when investigating peace activists in Israel.
Tali Fahima has been declared a political prisoner by Amnesty International.
We call on Shabak to stop harassing Tali Fahima and on the Justice System to stop co-operating with this abuse of democratic legal procedures.

This happens in the self proclaimed 'only democracy in the middle east'

08.12.2004 09:01

'The only democracy in the meddle east' can put a person into a practically indefinitly long administrative detention without giving any reasons. Than it can present to a puppet judge a made-up sheet of accusations, which neither the accused nor her attorney are allowed to examine. Then it can torture the person, sexually harass her, deprive her of sleep, threaten her by all kinds of procedures, and eventually go through some mock trial
and convict her without letting her know what wrong she has ever done.

This is done for one sole purpose: Threaten all peace activists that this is the fate that expects them.

The only protected species are academics of European origin. Their protest is 'tolerated' because it provides the state and the academic institutions with a thin mantle of 'respectibility' that well-meaning but naive Europeans fail to see through into the nakedness of the despotic system.

Don't let this take place without protest!
