Matthew Stiles | 25.11.2004 19:23 | Culture | London
This years World Fair takes place on Friday 26th November 2004, 4 to 8 pm, and Saturday 27th November 2004 11am-6pm, at the Conway Hall London WC1.
The Fair is organised by Oxfam, War on Want and World Development Movement. There will 60 stalls run by charities and ethical traders with everything anyone could want for a Christmas present with a difference.
Colombia Solidarity Campaign will be present with a stall of craft goods made by a collective of Colombian internally displaced Jewellery-Makers. More than 250 families were forced to flee because the ODC and Ocensa oil pipe-lines, built by the Colombian Government in association with BP, was constructed across their lands. The pipelines destroyed their water sources, crops, homes, and their peace and tranquillity. With no access to their lands, these displaced people make jewellery to sell in order to fend off hunger and make a basic living. All the money raised from the sale of this jewellery will go directly to them.
There will be live world music, the venue has disabled access and a creche is available throughout the Saturday.
