Housing Crisis is Looming!

Mike Lane | 25.11.2004 11:11 | Liverpool | London

The left wing still buries its head in international issues when hundreds of thousands of people face homelessness right across Great Britain.

Attached is a disturbing report from “Shelter” and below are some links to stories in the Liverpool Echo:

The media and the left wing need to take a close look at what is happening concerning the situation of rented housing, especially social housing for the most vulnerable within our society. Whilst the left wing keeps its head buried in international issues (which, don’t get me wrong, are important) hundreds of thousands of people are becoming homeless because of New Labour’s insistence on pushing ahead with new builds for sale rather than for rent “Heartland’s” agenda. Thousands of young families who have been cajoled by money grabbing estate agents to take on mortgages which are beyond their income. As time goes by many of these young families are going to lose there houses, further adding to the homeless peoples list. Even the moderate right wing Liverpool Echo is now being forced to publish what is going on becouse it is becomming quite obvious that this country is heading for a housing crisis.

housing benefit reform

25.11.2004 12:57

Please note that the government are also trying to push through reform to try to force people on benefits to pay a proportion of their rent. They say this is to encourage people to find cheaper housing, but in areas with little cheap housing available it is bound to increase homelessness, and for those who struggle and find the money out of already meagre incomes, it will cause great hardship.

Meanwhile, the rich get richer & the Monarchy retain their feudal grip

Prince Charles built 1,000 houses, selling at £350,000 each on farmland of "Outstanding Natural Beauty" in Dorchester (Poundbury). His profit on 1,000 houses was over £100 million.
Earlier this year, Dorchester Planning Department drew up their latest assessment for housing needs. Seventy hectares of farmland of outstanding natural beauty over the hedge from the building plot granted permission in 1990 has now been designated for housing, netting Charles a further £300million overnight.

Now, what are we going to do about it?
