Tony Blair is to reply to questions sent direct from voters by text message.

The Prime Minister has agreed to answer questions personally during a 45-minute session at Downing Street.

More than 5,000 questions have been sent in since the idea was announced last Thursday.

Mobile phone network O2, which is organising the event, say the top five topics are: Iraq, fox-hunting, pensions, immigration and community issues.

There have also been a number of quirky suggestions sent in.

They include: "Are your more of a Daniel Cleaver or a Mark Darcy?" - referring to characters from the Bridget Jones books and films.

Others have been: "Are you a beer or spirits man?", "Do you watch The Simpsons?" and "Have you ever considered packing it all in for a simpler life and running away to Scotland with Cherie to run a chip shop?"

Mr Blair is expected to answer around 50 questions during the session, hosted by Capital FM disc jockey Margherita Taylor.

Each person whose question is chosen will get a personal reply - imputed by officials rather than the Prime Minister himself.

Internet users can watch, although not hear, the session live from 1pm through O2's website - www.o2.co.uk. The questions and answers will appear on the screen. The proceedings will also be available to owners of mobile phones with internet access through O2's Active portal.
