What Has Happened To Manchester Social Forum

Does anybody know what is happening with Manchester Social Forum? Its web-site seems to have dissappeared.

Has it suffered the clash of the usual sectarians? Or is it the play thing of a few individuals - like London Social Forum?

Social Forum are being launched successfully in other places. Could Manchester pull itself together and relaunch.

It's still there

Social Forum is still up and running. They are having problems with their website, I think they've lost the domain name, or something. They still meet every Thursdya night at the Friends Meeting House.

My advice is to check there first - just to rule it out. A mate of mine went missing once from Manchester and was discovered in Sheffield.

Yes it's still going, the website is undergoing a 'facelift' and will be online as some as we sort web space etc. Meanhile you can join the new e-mail group to keep up with goings on just send an email to

Don't they have a Socialist Worker Forum in Manchester like some other places - that's the same as a Social Forum init? Or I am as breathtakingly stupid as the SWooPier who had the idea in the first place.

(Note: A SWooPier is a member of the SWP, a Leninist Sect who clam 10,000 members, but actually have less than 600).

MSF also stands for Manufacturing Science Finance, the former name for Amicus, a smaller union than UNISON.

Yes, of course SWP UNISON is an oxymoron. SWP members in UNISON can be found in the "UNISON United Left" along with their fellow travellers, although it's quite hard to find if you're not a member (of "UUL", that is). Naturally, UNISON does not recognise the "UUL" (along with many of the Left), but strangely enough the organisers of the European Social Forum did recognise the "UUL" as a union (see the official programme if you haven't thrown it out yet).

But back to the subject. UNISON did lose patience with a couple of SWPers and chucked them out. And yes, you've guessed it,now they're trying to join Amicus!
