Silence from the left on the racist murder of Kriss Donald

I've been waiting to see if there has been any comment from the left on the trial of the racist murderers of Kriss Donald. There's been none. The silence is deafening. Kriss Donald was a 15 year school-kid who was attacked in broad daylight, dragged off the streets by a gang who beat him, stabbed him and then set him alight while he was still alive. It is one of the worst racist murders this country has ever seen. So why the silence? The only possible conclusion has to be that it is because Kriss Donald was white and the racists who killed him were Asian.

The only comments from anti-racist campaigners following his murder were to criticise the BNP for trying to cash-in on public anger. Frankly it's sickening. As somebody who has been an active anti-racist for many years, and who has been 'Paki-bashed' and repeatedly suffered from racist abuse as a teenager I find it unforgiveable that the left keeps silent. Imagine if the victim was Asian or black. There would have been no silence then.

Is it any wonder that the BNP and others are able to parade themselves as the voice of the white community? Who appears more humane - them or us? If the only thing the left can do is criticise the BNP instead of attacking the racists who target white people then we're leaving a vacuum that fascists are desperate to fill.

Genuine anti-racism means fighting racists regardless of what race or colour they are. It means siding with the victims of racism, no matter what race they are.

Personally, I hope that Kriss Donald's murderers get put away for a very very long time. A life in prison is still not enough to pay for what they did to that poor kid.

this post makes a good point and I think it's worth saying loud and clear that being against racism means condemning racist attacks regardless of the colour of perpetrator or victim.
like brains and sweethearts, idiots come in every colour - so spokesfolk for justice must be colourblind.
that's the whole point, innit?
yea there is more anti-black/brown racism in this country, but isn't that just because there are more whitish than brown people living here, and hence more white idiots at work?
full sympathy to kriss' family and friends - same as to every other victim of stupidity and violence, here and abroad....

I live in the area and a rumour I've heard is that it was more a drugs war thing than a race thing, despite what the papers are saying (now, it was different a few months back). There's been loads of burnt-out pubs and killings in Glasgow this year. 3 of the suspects have fled to Pakistan, so the case isn't closed either. Do we really need political posturing about race from anyone given that? (no matter how well meaning / right you might be)

I get the feeling that folk here want to get it done with and get some healing done. Get on with getting on living together in our community.
