Dan Roberts | 19.11.2004 00:36 | Analysis | World

A 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Spain, Russia, China, and Cuba.

Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (November 19) is up at the website  http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Spanish National radio, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From NETHERLANDS- First a press review from Monday covering the continued racial tension in the Netherlands- a move to enforce laws against blasphemy has sparked a debate on free speech. In Nepal, Maoists rebels are urging foreign donors to stop giving aid to the government- an analyst questions whether foreign aid ever resolves internal rebellion. A press review on the resignation of Colin Powell. Every Sunday night RN airs an opinion segment by Rob Green- this one concerns the Iraq elections scheduled for January.
From SPAIN- A Spanish press review on the battle in Fallujah.
From RUSSIA- The UN commisioner for Human Rights has called for protecting peaceful residents of Fallujah. Russia's Foreign Minister has said that getting rid of double standards is a key to success in the so-called "war on terrorism." 9 nations have agreed to work on stemming the flow of opium products from Afghanistan, which had a 50% increase in production this year.
From CHINA- Iran has pledged to suspend all nuclear enrichment programs so as to avoid UN sanctions. The Palestinian leader replacing Arafat was slightly optimistic about unifying Palestinian factions in an election in January. Several Palestinian factions said they will not participate in Presidential elections until the state of Palestine is established. Russian President Putin announced that they are developing and testing new types of nuclear missles, which may give the US justification for its current developments.
From CUBA- A new British inquiry confirms that the Gulf War Syndrome is genuine and that at least 6000 British soldiers are suffering from exposure to depleted uranium, pesticides, and vaccines.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via  http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better-   http://www.freakradio.org  Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-  http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative-  http://www.partytown.com/radio
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
