At lunchtime today local residents, shoppers and those who work near the building housing the headquarters of Lockheed Martin, wrote letters telling Lockheed Martin what they thought of their bloody business dealing in death.

Lockheed Martin is the world’s largest maker and exporter of arms, and is actively engaged in developing the UK’s next generation of nuclear weapons at Aldermaston. By doing so they are violating the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, signed by the UK.

Their UK headquarters are hidden away in an unmarked building in Carlisle Place, a quiet residential street near Victoria. Many local residents and even some employees from other companies working in the same building, did not know of their presence there.

Protesters from Trident Ploughshares drew attention to Lockheed Martins whereabouts with banners, arrows, fake missiles and by distributing leaflets. Many people stopped to write letters to Lockheed Martin telling them what they thought of them. The envelope containing the letters was delivered to 22 Carlisle Place later in the day.

Lyn Bliss, 53, a member of the group said, “This company have been involved in making parts for Trident (the four submarines that carry Britain’s nuclear weapons with a destructive power equal to 1,000 Hiroshimas) and now they are planning to develop the next generation of nuclear weapons at Aldermaston. It is ironic that this company whose business is to kill and maim people are housed in Cardinal Manning House. Cardinal Manning promoted peace not the death and destruction that this company is making its profits from”.

Trident Ploughshares is a campaign committed to disarm UK nuclear weapons through direct, nonviolent, accountable action. For photos and further information contact Lyn Bliss 01582 736036.

Kiss my arse

14.12.2004 18:54

I'd like to extend a personal kiss my arse to all who spread rumours and bullshit worldwide about Lockheed or any other US Government contractor. If, indeed, we are manufacturing anything lethal, you can be sure the host government (yours) knows about it. You can be equally sure that they are spending very real money to get it. Whether or not it violates any treaties remains to be seen.

Your actions of signs, arrows, and so forth only place innocent lives in jeopardy, and as protestors, you make yourselves equally guilty of the crimes that you protest. Anyone working in these facilities is guilty only of going to work and doing a job. The same goes for butchers and so forth that are habitually harassed by groups such as PETA.

The manner in which you protest speaks to your cause, and reflects poorly upon you as a group. To that, I give you a hearty "kiss my arse" and an equal share of "up yours".

Try something different. Something effective. Maybe petition your government againt their spending for our fine products.

Yours,

The Man.
