Dan Roberts | 11.11.2004 23:53 | Analysis | Repression | World

A 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Germany, China, and Cuba.

Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (November 12) is up at the website  http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From NETHERLANDS- Since the murder of filmmaker Theo Von Gogh the Netherlands has been gripped by retaliatory attacks on Muslim mosques and schools. The first report is from Monday discussing the early attacks with a Muslim journalist. Then an update from Wednesday which saw a shootout with alleged Muslim terrorists, following many more assaults against Muslims. Then a Dutch press review covering the events in the Netherlands and the US assault on Fallujah. Finally, as the invasion of Fallujah continued, so-called insurgents kidnapped 3 members of the Iraqi Prime Minister's family.
From GERMANY- A European press review on the escalating violent racism in the Netherlands, which many fear could spread through Europe.
From CHINA- The intense assault on rebels in Fallujah is analyzed and critiqued by several Chinese military strategists.
From CUBA- The EU foreign policy chief doubts that an election in Iraq scheduled for January will take place. Concerns are mounting about voting irregularities in the recent US Presidential election. Then a Viewpoint on the new rules in Cuba that no longer allow US dollars to be used as currency.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via  http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better-   http://www.freakradio.org  Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PDST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-  http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative-  http://www.partytown.com/radio
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
