Manchester demo against Iraq occupation

With an attack on the city of Iraqi city of Falluja apparently looming, a hundred or so people from all over the city gathered at 5pm in Piccadilly Gardens, Saturday 6th November, to demonstrate against US/UK tyranny in Iraq.
A number of speakers were warmly received, including Clive Searle, who urged Mancunians to support the resistance in Iraq as we would have supported the Italian partisans, or the French resistance to the Nazis.
The crowd heard that the Chorlton anti-war group had maintained their Friday night vigil weekly for over 2 years now, always with over 10 people (except Boxing Day 2003!). Your reporter (from Hulme) suggests that they have set the rest of us a fine example…
