Today in St Peters Square in Nottingham, protestors from Nottingham Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, gathered outside Marks & Spencer’s. A 1000 Leaflets were handed out to shoppers encouraging them to Boycott Israeli goods and M&S. A petition was offered for people to pledge their support. Marks and Spencer’s, according to the Jerusalem Report (5 June 2000), support Israel to the tune of approximately $233 million in trade every year. The ongoing protest is not one of concern over M&S’s Jewish roots, but its historic and continuing support in aid and economic development for Israel. Human Rights atrocities committed by the Israelis continue daily against the Palestinian people. Israel is violating International law and destroying lives because of it. The picket proved a successful opportunity to inform the public of the acts of violence, oppression and apartheid that continue as the eyes of the International community look on.
