Boycott M&S. Support the Palestinians!

Richard Whiteley | 05.11.2004 20:59 | Anti-racism | London

Last night saw another good demo against Marks and Spencer - Britain's biggest corporate sponsor of Israel.

Last night saw another good demo outside Britain's biggest sponsor of the murder of innocent Palestinian men, women and children. Only yesterday a 12 year old boy, Bashar Jebarra, was killed by the IDF at a refugee camp in Askar, his crime - throwing stones at a tank occupyng his land. 3 days earlier another 12 year old schoolboy was killed in Jenin by the army on his way home for school, his name was Ibrahim. On the 28th October, Rania Arram, only 8 years old, was killed by an Israeli sniper after leaving her 'house' in the Khan Younis refugee camp for school, and on Monday an injured 17 year-old boy, Mohammad Abu Aita, was taken out of an ambulance by Israeli occupation forces and shot dead in Jenin. These are just a few of the attrocities that have been committed by the Israelis over the last week.

Despite these cruel crimes Marks and Spencer continues it's support of Israel. It does not matter to this company how many Palestinians get killed, the M&S board like the Israeli government view the Palestinian people as expendable. We must continue the protests against the store and keep up the weekly work in creating a strong and stable Palestinian solidarity movement here in Britain. Last nights picket was excellent with a lot of new people coming along. The interest from the public was as good as usual - the main question being asked to us this time was 'what's gonna happen when Arafat's gone?' To this we had to reply that we don't know, but what is certain the brutality against the Palestinians will continue and we must continue to show our support.

The demos are growing strong around the country now too. As well as the continuing demos around London and Manchester there are pickets going on in Durham, Canterbury, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Glasgow, Leicester, Brighton and Nottingham. We ask all conscientious human beings to support these demos which are being organised by a mix of groups and individuals. And as far as encountering Zionists here in London goes - don't be concerned. Betar Tagar, the chief organisers of the Zionist counter-demo, have now been reduced to an irrelevance. Their head has skipped the country after facing arrest over Betar's lies to the Charities Commission. Any bets where he's gone to!

Victory to the Intifada!
Boycott Marks and Spencer. Every Thursday 6 till 8pm outside M&S on Oxford St (Marble Arch end).
