I am an American although somewhat ashamed to call myself one during this administration. I will be in the streets protesting on Januray 20,2005. I hope that crowds will amass all over the world to protest the re-election of President Bush. If only the rest of the world could have voted too. At least you can have your voice heard this way!

i am an american here in london as well and i am quite distressed by the election results, but even more so by the diminishing democracy at home. for four years bush used the 2000 florida debacle to his advantage by insisting that states switch to electronic, paperless voting machines. he also encouraged the privatization of this industry, with diebold (a republican company in many ways) receiving many contracts to take care of the voting in many counties. and whenever there was a poor (read: black or hispanic) county that happened to have a republican in charge of election procedures, there was a curious lack of voting machines or locations to vote, leading to long lines and surely to people getting frustrated and not voting. this all worked to bush's advantage. and again, as in 2000, a large number of ballots were thrown out or not counted. and this time there is much evidence of computer errors shifting the vote in favor of bush in states that were polling for kerry, such as florida. there has never been such a large discrepancy between the final exit polls and the actual results of an election. there are many statistical outliers, and this all points to foul play. and before you feel sorry for gore or kerry, think about their lack of protest, their lack to speak for the black and hispanic voters of my country. time after time democrats have refused to deal with the issue. why? because the democratic party doesn't want to upset the status quo. they are more worried that a third party will draw a large vote than anything else. but, if there is one thing that is certain, they can't blame nader this time around. he was not a factor in this race and kerry still lost. the whole thing is about money and power, it has naught to do with anything else. this thing needs to be stopped at the root cause. the flow of money needs to be cut off. the cozy relationship between business and government needs to stop. opening foreign markets to large corporations needs to cease being a priority. we all have different views on how this needs to happen, but it needs to happen soon. we need to destroy capitalism before it destroys itself and us along with it.
