Slough Anti-Incinerator Network; Organise, mobilise, resist!

SainSlough | 28.10.2004 14:20

Galvanised by the recent achievement of important, though relatively small, victories as well as other positive activity in both Slough and West London, SAIN are calling for active community participation on three major upcoming dates:

Firstly, it is known that Slough Borough Council will soon be calling an 'extraordinary' council meeting, in order to vote on whether to pursue the option of revoking planning consent. Whilst a date is yet to be decided it is probable that this will take place at the end of November. SAIN will post the date on our website (www.sainslough.co.uk) and on our new email list ( sainarea@yahogroups.co.uk, see below) as soon as it is confirmed so keep your eyes peeled! We must all attend this meeting to say loud and clear that the Council must take this option of legally halting Grundon's Incinerator or else we will be forced to stop it ourselves and we will not give in!

Secondly, SAIN are inviting everyone to come along and participate in an evening of self-organisation and collective community planning with a view to formulating our own proposals for our own waste. This event is a part of the 'Fennerfest' being facilitated by our friends at Slough4peace and will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 24th November at Slough Friends Meeting House, Ragstone Road. Please bring and share your experiences, ideas and visions. Authorities have cut us out of the process too many times, putting economic interests above our interests. We believe that no-one knows better what is right for our community than the community knows itself, lets prove it!

Thirdly, West London Stop the Incinerator Campaign and SAIN are calling for a 'day-of-action' on Saturday 4th December. We encourage active participation in organising and joining a mass rally and protest near Colnbrook (venue TBC) starting at 2.00pm. Lets show big business that whatever threats they think they can blackmail us with, the community around Slough and West London will not back down, we will not allow our lives to be run by a few wealthy private interests and we will not stop!

To recieve updates about the campaign and take part in discussion, debate and planning please join the SAIN email list by sending a blank email to  sainarea-subscribe@yahoogroups.co.uk and follow the instructions in the confirmation email.
