Storming Of The Palace - more distortion from the SWP

Potential Anarchist | 27.10.2004 15:48 | European Social Forum

2 letters from this weeks Socialist Worker.

Spectacularly wrong target

I ATTENDED the ESF session on racism and fascism, and was astonished to find the stage occupied by a bunch of masked people who claimed to be protesting against Ken Livingstone. I

f they had chosen the recent New Labour conference for their egotistical and elitist outburst I would not have been bothered. But to disrupt a unique opportunity for activists from across Europe to discuss and organise against fascism is unacceptable.

The pleas of black people at the meeting were ignored, and the black chair of the event was assaulted and robbed.

Luckily for the middle class anarchists involved in this stunt there were not many black people at the event. Next time there will be.

My voice was silenced

I WAS absolutely horrified at what took place in the meeting on fighting fascism at the recent European Social Forum in London.

Many relatives on my mother s side experienced the Nazis at first hand during the Second World War. I now live in an area of Essex where a fascist councillor has been elected so the meeting was of significant importance to me.

Being only five feet tall, I did not havethe stature to get heard from the floor, so I made my way to the stage. Once there I tried to express why I thought that the meeting should be allowed to go ahead. I was physically pushed off the stage by two tall white males and told to "fuck off" because they "didn't care" .

My right to have a voice had been taken away. As a youth worker I brought a group of young people to the ESF who were equally horrified with the events. My union colleagues were shocked that an anti-fascist meeting had been broken up.

If there are more black people there next time Gary McFarlane?

What difference will it make? Why are you still using the race card?

Surely not, people who are in the SWP writing letters to Socialist Worker! now that is an amazing discovery...

Imagine them thinking that they have a right to a point of view, dont they realise that only anarchists are allowed to have opinions?

Try as you might Mr Potential Anarchist I don't think you can convince me that assaulting the secretary of Unite Against Fascism is an anything other than than a disgraceful act. Those masked individuals who did so have got plenty to be ashamed about and to wreck such a huge gathering of the european anti fascist movement in such a careless and cavalier and infantile way brings discredit to them as individuals and whatever strand of the movement they claim to represent .I bet the real hardline fascists out there are chuckling in their smart suits.
Mr Potential Anarchist we need to discuss our differences in the movement in a comradely way but we also have to unite to take on the far right and the violent assault and robbery of a leading anti fascist at a mass gathering of the ESF is unacceptable and plain boneheaded.

Gary is a mate of Weymans, and Beccy is more than a paper seller.

And they're not expressing a "point of view" they're telling hysterical lies.

Its called disinformation.

And no, I don't want a paper thank you very much

I really wish people would stop using the comments wire to repeat unsubstantiated allegations.

Sorry I am a troll. I should get put more.

Still, if people want to spend their time posting rubbish on Indymedia then why shouldn't we?

I mean if people want real news like what is on BBC and Newsnight with them experts discovering Hobbits and saving the planet with trade and Trevor McDonalds exposures of bad travel experiences perhaps they should get a telly or summat or perhaps a job with the BBC or Jon Snow - I mean lovely fella, nearly killed Idi Amin, apaprently, or summat, he'd probably give us a job as a journalist comrade or something.

SWP fudge!

So this was a meeting about the rise of fascism in Europe was it? Traditionally the SWP sees a connection between capitalist attacks on the working class and the rise of fascist parties. Some European states witnessed recently and upheaval of resistance to capitalists´ attacks AND the rise of fascists parties. In some regions of Germany the fascists polled between 5 and 9 % in elections.

So, SWappies, why was there no speaker from the ant-fascist movement in Germany invited to speak? Why was there no connection drawn between the rise of nazis and employers´ attacks? The later would have surely embarrassed "Red" Ken. So, stop shedding those crock tears, SWP! The trots always argued, since Trotzky analized German fascism, that if you want to stop the nazis you need to stop the capitalists as well. But then, the SWP is no longer a trot party!

I find it ridiculous that theres people posting accolades to the ignorant wankers 'protesting' at this conference,it seems to me some people caught up in an image of being a political radical wanting to throw shit in the wind in between their otherwise lovely existance. People with real passion for the cause (freeing the oppressed, amd oblitorating discrimination being part of) and any amount of interllect can see suppressing the views of people with a common goal is so defeatist its unbelievable, beccy palmer is my mother and went to prison as a protest against margret thatcher during my childhood, this was her contributing to a revolution and she contiues to do so, lets see if those kids that stormed the stage are continuing to fight for what they believe long into their old age.
