I found an amusing thread on urban75

 http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=92309

quoted from u75
I found an RUC conference flyer!
I swear upon the tomb of the great leader and dear teacher Cde J V Stalin - that I found this leaflet on the ground yesterday. I've typed it up for your perusal. It didn't look as glossy as your usual Trotsky-Fascist prop, so maybe it was the work of an over-eager young hack? It was in c.London.

Quote:
Calling all the working class! Please come along to RESPECT's conference to show your support for a great group of people who are fighting for YOU!
Our party - soon to be Britain's fourth biggest party, is made up of workers, writers, students and Asian people, who all believe the war in Iraq is so wrong!
So - please come along - maybe in your lunch-break, or take the whole day off! Come and listen to our speakers - such as RESPECT MP George Galloway, Greater London Assembly election runner-up Lindsey German, a train driver, Muslim activist Salma Yaqoob and Professor Alex Callinicos.
A selection of approved books and journals will also be on sale.
So come on you workers! Stop voting Tony Blair! Have some RESPECT!
The Respect conference will take place on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 October at the Camden . Centre, Euston Road, London (King’s Cross tube).

Respect national delegate conference
05/08/2004

Respect will be holding a two-day conference in central London on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st October. This will be a delegate conference with one delegate elected for every ten members. Details of area meetings to elect delegates will be announced towards the end of August after consultation with local groups. We will also be announcing details relating to the structure of conference and submission of motions, etc as soon as possible.

All local groups are also strongly encouraged to establish regular monthly meetings where possible and to elect steering committees.

2 hours on election strategy on the 31st - that should be almost as stimulating as watching fruit rot

hang on a minute, think this through

Is an attack on the Respect conference such a great idea? I'm not sure.

However infuriating the SWaPpies are with their hierarchical behaviour, they're not worse than Nu-Labour or Tory or even Liberal, none of which got their conferences done over. Won't it look like we've lost perspective and become a bit obsessed?

If we can get enough people together to storm somewhere, wouldn't it be better to do something government or miltary? Especially when they're about to destroy Fallujah.

You couldn't make it up.

Don't get too excited - he's a spook

Unfortunately the person who started this thread is well known on U75 as an MI5 spook and agent provocateur.

Respect will Hammer Several More Nails Into THe SWP's Coffin

25.10.2004 19:34

The SWP are trying to get all there supporters to the conference, because RESPECT's involvement in a General Election campaign needs to be prepared. For one, the SWP will want any money to go to their candidates.

Respect will not come close to winning any seats, and any effort and resources the SWP put into such a campaign will be wasted. They will not recruit but will lose members, as previous campaigns have shown.

But they will go into such a campaign because they are politically naive, and all over the place.

Watching the SWP, is watching a political party building up to suicide. It's messy for everyone with whom they get involved (just look at the ESF, turning activists over to the police and smearing others as thugs and rascists). Their paper sellers become more manic, slogans more hollow, and leadership more dishonest and unprincipled. Oh ... It's a long painful suicidal goodbye, and they wont be talked out of it.

Start Reporting It As It Is

26.10.2004 11:06

As this is a delegate conference then not likely 'The SWP are trying to get all there supporters to the conference'.

Respect held a successful rally of around 1500 at Friends Meeting House on the evening of Saturday 16th October. Yes. Same time as the 'Storming of the Palace.

I understand members of the SWP helped Javier - from Indymedia - when he was arrested. Indymedia is not the 'Sun'. Time to start reporting it as it is.
