This week's show features stories from China Radio International, the Voice of Russia, Radio Netherlands, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From China- China announced it may import US made 3rd generation nuclear reactors. China disputes Vietnam's rights to develop oil in the China Sea. North and South Korea are mutually developing an office complex for interterritorial businesses starting up in the northern territory. Iran maintains that its nuclear enrichment program is to be used solely for power production. Human rights observers continue to report that Israel is violating international laws by destroying Palestinian homes in the Gaza Strip.
From Russia- Israeli opposition leader Perez fears that Israeli fundamentalists may kill Prime Minister Sharon over his Gaza Strip evacuation plans. Russia's Parliament will vote soon on adopting the Kyoto Protocols. The US Global Anti-Missile Defense program, formerly known as Star Wars, continues to be quietly implemented, much to the consternation of Russia and everyone else not included in the plan. Then an analysis about where America is headed in light of world opinion that has radically changed in the past 3 years.
From Netherlands- The "Saudi Initiative," an all-Muslim security force for Iraq, has been rejected- what is the relationship between this choice and the US Presidential election?
From Cuba- British troops are slated to move into more dangerous areas in Iraq, which many see as an election effort to ease the pressure caused by the fact that the vast majority of troop casualties are American. The Pentagon has reported that over 8000 US troops have been wounded in Iraq, more than double what it was 6 months ago. A Viewpoint on the US elections, focusing on the topics absent from the debates such as the treatment of immigrants to the US.
