I've just recorded part 2 of "The Power Of Nightmares", and will be happy to offer VHS, MPEG or CDV versions to anyone interested.

Part 2 covers the Afghan war with Soviet Russia, the civil war in Algeria, terroris attacks in Egypt and the start of Al Qaeda's terrorist threat against the USA, having failed to topple governments in the Muslim world.

It also shows how the neocons smeared President clinton to get the Republicans back into power.

Part 3 (which I'll record as well) will bring us up to date.

Did anyone record Part 1 in VHS format? Missed to do so, but managed to watch it! Power full stuff these neocon power games!

Would be very glad to get this series on DVD, please let me know how I can get a copy of it from you.

Meanwhile I've converted part 2 to MPEG format, but there seem to be plenty of Bit Torrent versions around already, so no worries...

The source being off air, obviously it won't be full DVD quality - but at 540 x 352 resolution, way better than VHS. Hopefully I'll be able to cram all 3 eps onto one DVD. However I have a question for all the video buffs out there. Does anyone have a recommendation as to what software is best to convert the 3 divX files onto 1 DVD preferably with a simple menu to select the eps? I have all manner of DVD authoring suites, just never have the time to really try them all out. Hoping someone with experience can say what's best yet simple?

I need a link to a torrent for parts 2 and 3 of The Power of Nightmares. I found one torrent for part 2 which only had a BBC2 slide and the soundtrack. There was no video, just the slide, which lasted for an hour!

I'm in the USA so NTSC is a must, or AVI or MPG that I can convert and burn. Or if someone would like to swap through the mail, that could be arranged. Please email me if you have more info.

A "torrent" is a file that's downloaded using Bittorrent. Download and install Bittorrent:

Then you can use that to download the small torrent file, which will then go off and build the file you want on your PC using parts shared from lots of people's computers, rather than all of us swamping one machine (and its network connection) with lots of requests to download something huge.

Yes, it's for high speed access. Each file is a copy of an hour-long video, which means it's hundreds of megabytes in size, so it will take you ages to download on a dial-up modem. Ask a friend who's got a high-speed connection to download it for you.

ICH is using Realmedia streams instead of Bittorrents. This allows you to watch the movie as it gradually copies in at lower speed, rather than downloading the whole file and then watching it all at once. So that should work better on a low speed connection, although the quality of the picture won't be as good.
Lots of people are trying to view this from ICH at the same time though. Wait a little while, and try again. I tried just now, and it seems to work OK.

Need Help finding good AVI download

From ex-pat living in north India using phone line at 48.00 kps or less –

Parts 1 & 2 of the avi file out of dc.indymedia for the first program of Power of Nightmares downloaded successfully.

After 90% download of part 3, tried again and got the entire file.

Parts 1 & 2 play on RealOne perfectly, Part 3 will not play and gives the message “ClassFactory cannot supply requested class.”

Don’t understand this message and I don’t really understand ‘torrent’ downloading -- it sounds like you need hi-speed connection.

Downloading 25-30 meg avi file seems to be a great way to get the programs from here --

so does anyone know what I can do at this point or where I can get error free/playable avi versions of the three programs of the Power of Nightmares.

It is a supeficially interesting documentary, however it fails to go into any depth into the institutional problems in our societies. It portrays the neo-con's as bad apples but none the less well meaning bad apples, who are trying to spread the good of democracy around the world and naively intent on using American power aggressively around the world to achieve this aim. This is just the same as a documentary on Murdoch "Outfoxed", which focuses on another bad apple not on the institutional corruption. I'd like to see a documentary that shows that party politics is a corporate sham and corporate media is also a sham, that Western promotion of human rights abroad is camouflages the violent control and exploitation of defenseless people. I was not surprised to see that the series isolated from meaningful political and economic context, important areas such as the business and the corporate role on the world. The real interests and goals that shape the world were omitted. It is a coup for the BBC that such attention has been lavished on the series, the BBC can continue to claim that it is a truely independent bastion of liberal of free thought, willing to stand up to power.

Just found the news of this series - yeah - January in the States! Never a single word about it here!!! Does anyone have this on DVD yet available for purchase? Can't find anything on BBC's site - or any other on how to get a copy.

I have all three episodes as high quality DivX video on my computer. The total file size is about a gigabyte. I used BitTorrent to download them, but I see here that a lot of people have issues with that.

Some time in the next day or so I am going to set up an FTP server for the sole purpouse of providing this documentary for download. I will post the details here once I have it set up.
