On the 12th of October Hands of Venezuela and Rythms of Resistance organised a picket in front of the USA embassy in solidarity with indigeneous struggle in The Americas.

The 12th of October is celebrated in The Americas Spain and Portugal as the day of the race. It was on a 12th of October more than 500 hundred years ago that colonisation of the Americas started with the genocide of the indigenous populations. Now a days the colonisation continues with a model of government bassed on colonial rules that supports the interests of the oligarquies. At the same time this model of government gives free entrance to multinational corporations to exploit the natural resources of these countries without regard for the needs of its inhabitatants.

The 12 of October has been declared by a group of activists around the world as a day of indigenous resistance. Many demostrations have happened in different parts of Europe and The Americas. Here in London people from Hands of Venezuela, Rythms of Resistance and The Global Women Strike marched from the Mexican embassy with Zapatist activists towards the USA embassy. A giant head of American president Mr Bush dressed up as Columbus with a flying parrot as a companion and giants hands all over the globe. In front of the USA embassy there was samba, speaches and a general positive mood that was not spoiled by a escualido representing the oposition in Venezuela with a torn up Venezuelan flag saying Venezuela needs help. Help from who we wonder.
