Please help apply pressure to Barclays in the UK and Europe. Barclays is one of the largest stock holders in Sinclair Broadcasting. They hold more that 1,801,000 shares. Sinclair Broadcasting owns stations that reach 24 percent of US population. They intend to preempt their regular network programming before the US election to air an anti-Kerry smear campaign. I do not believe that a UK based company should be involved in backing Bush in such a substantial and underhanded way.

Most recently, Sinclair Broadcasting has gained notoriety by ordering its 62 local stations to broadcast an anti-Kerry film a few days before the November 2, 2004 general election. Those 62 stations include affiliates of all six major commercial broadcast networks in Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Nevada and Pennsylvania. The broadcast will preempt normal prime-time programming on those outlets. Sinclair vice president Mark Hyman said on a CNN interview that John Kerry and the Democrats are like "holocaust deniers" and that if the Sinclair stunt is an "in-kind donation to George Bush" then "every suicide bomb that goes off in Iraq is an in-kind donation to John Kerry."

In April, Sinclair communications corporate counsel decided to pull a special Nightline broadcast devoted to reading the names of those fallen in combat from their 8 ABC affiliates.
