Schools in Iran have started the academic year since 22 September 2004. The Islamic Republic of Iran has stated that the parents of children with Afghan origins must pay a fee of $300 per child in order to be allowed to register at schools. It has also been stated that the parents must submit their refugee ID cards and sign a paper that they would leave the country at the end of the school year.

The more than 2.5 million Afghans now illegally living in Iran neither have the possibility to attend their own schools, nor are they allowed to go to Iranian schools.

This action of the Islamic Republic of Iran is by any standard and value against human and children’s rights. It must be condemned and stopped. We are all aware of the dire situation of the Afghan population in Iran and the harsh treatment they have and are suffering under the Islamic government in Iran. Afghan refugees in Iran face total poverty and their most basic human and civil rights are violated by the Iranian government. The government officials treat them like criminals. Despite all the hardships, poverty and sufferings, the Afghan refugees have struggled hard to send their children to school. What we are seeing now is the harsh situation being imposed on hundreds of children too.

We must prevent the implementation of such inhumane policy. The civil and human rights of all Afghan population and specially that of children must be protected.

We the undersigned:

Protest against this policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran that violated of Afghan origins children rights to access of free education.

Condemn the Islamic regime’s continued violations of Afghan refugee rights to remain and protection in Iran. The civil and human rights of all Afghan population and specially that of children must be protected.

All Afghan refugees must be granted the indefinite right to live and work in Iran.

We demand immediate stop deportation of Afghan refugees from Iran, and granted them to indefinite rights to live and work and education in Iran.
Sincerely,

Farshad Hoseini
