Song about the far left and anarchist movement by the Beatles

Beatles fan | 05.10.2004 10:31

Back in 1965 the Beatles wrote a song dedicated to the dreamers of the far left. A forrunner to their 1968 anti-leftist revolutionary song revolution. Here it is below. The lyrics show how all leftists and revolutionaries are really nothing more than dreamers and fantasists who need to get real and start living in the real world.

He’s a real nowhere man,
Sitting in his nowhere land,
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.

Doesn’t kave a point of view,
Knows not where he’s going to,
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere man, please listen,
You don’t know what you’re missing,
Nowhere man, the world is at your command.

He’s as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere man can you see me at all?
Doesn’t kave a point of view,
Knows not where he’s going to,
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere man, don’t worry,
Take your time, don’t hurry,
Leave it all till somebody else
Lend you a hand.

He’s a real nowhere man,
Sitting in his nowhere land,
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.

I've read these lyrics a couple of times through and in stark honesty I can find nothing intrinsic therein to confirm your interpretation of them. I'm afraid you're now gonna have to explain, specifically, why it is that " The lyrics show how all leftists and revolutionaries are really nothing more than dreamers and fantasists etc..." What is it IN THE WORDS THEMSELVES that precludes other interpretations? (and never mind what beatle members themselves might have said - your claim is that the lyrics SHOW something)Until then, you're just gonna look like you've pinned your own hang-ups on what sems a rather abstract and non-specific piece of art.

On the other hand, it could be a song about George Bush, Tony Blair or, more likely Michael Howard

Just Gimme Some Truth

I’m sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
I’ve had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of soap
Money for dope
Money for rope

I’m sick to death of seeing things
From tight-lipped, condescending, mama’s little chauvinists
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth now

I’ve had enough of watching scenes
Of schizophrenic, ego-centric, paranoiac, prima-donnas
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of soap
It’s money for dope
Money for rope

Ah, I’m sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocrites
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now

I’ve had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now

All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth

Imagine there's no heaven,
it's easy if you try,
no hell below us,
above us only sky.

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too.

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man.

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one

Seems like Lennon's own Communist Manifesto to me...

Lennon's imagine song was anti-violence thats all.

05.10.2004 13:29

And here is the anti-revolutionary song written by Lennon and McCartney. Lennon's imgaine song was intended to be a statement against all violence including revolutionary violence so that hardly made him a communist. He merely wanted a peaceful world.

You say you want a revolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright Alright
You say you got a real solution
Well you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright Alright

You say you'll change the constitution
Well you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well you know
You better free your mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know know it's gonna be alright
Alright Alright
