What is it
The workshops will be involved in making props, posters, banners, placards, for the S.T.O.P event in George Square on the 16th and 17th October (See below for details)
There will be people on hand to help out and share technical skills with your efforts, ideas, art and presentation. It is important to note. To participate you do not need to know about any of theses things. The only qualification the participant needs to bring, is being keen to learn and enjoys good company.
Drop in
Anyone with a practical skill, who can help people out making and fixing things, are most welcome. Even if it is for an hour or so.
The workshops will encourage a high level of socialisation and involvement at any level. The main aim is to feel involved no matter how small your input.
Materials
Materials will be supplied. If anyone has a supply of big bits of cardboard or materials that could be useful, get in touch, as our budget isn't massive We will be using Card, wood, stencils, paint and so on. So don't dress in your Sunday best.
Come along, bring a friend
Stand Together Oppose Poverty (STOP) is an informal coalition of anti-poverty organisations that have met regularly over the last few months, with a view to sharing our experiences and skills gained in the struggle against poverty in Scotland. STOP is organising a Weekend of Action against poverty on the 16th and 17th October 2004 and we would love you to get involved in whatever way you can.
STOP believes the existence of poverty in our society is immoral and in no way should it be considered inevitable. It is a Human Rights issue and needs to be seen as such because everywhere you look, social, economic and cultural rights are being denied And we ned your help – There are various ways that this could happen The above workshop is only one
Publicity and Promotion - It would be great if you / your group/organisation were able to help us publicise and promote the Weekend of Action, especially the gathering in George Square on the 17th October. This could be done by sending out, via e-mail to your members / contacts / network nearer the time once we have finalised the programme and produced an e-mail 'poster'. We also have various posters, flyers, stickers, etc and if you are able to put some of these up or distribute them that would be great - please contact Adrian on 0141 3858884 / agirling@oxfam.org.uk and we will send you what you need.
