censorship?

indymedia has cowardly censored a comment, which should be dealt with seriously

A comment was posted to one of the posts on graffitti in Oxford which has been delected.

BTW - thanks very much to the poster of those pixs - you have done us all a service, I am envious (in a good way) of you and of the artists who made those works.

The comment stated that these graffitti works were;
not art
were just damage
would not lead to social change

I wanted to reply, but cannot, because the comment was deleted by the monitors of Ox Indymedia. Now I cannot see how that comment breached any of the guidlines of Ox Indy.

Obviously the eds did not agree with it. Niether did I.But it made points which many feel and should be rationally responded to. It raised issues of:
the nature of art
what is damage
the ownership of commonspace
what might lead to social change

It is outrageous for the monitors of Ox Indymedia to censor that comment.

Please put it back up, so that it can open a debate. If you do not put it back up, then you will be saying that you do not want debate. That will be bad news.

i agree that some comments on indymedia are censored in-correctly.. whilest i agree with th non-commercial format of indy, very strictly. i also think that there needs to be a place where new ideas and tech 'solutions' etc can be discussed.. i would find it helpfull if someone could point out a place more appropriate for this.

and as for comments that 'we' dis-agree wwith... why not leave um up so that we can slate um...? etc

big up

wi love, peace and rez

to all indymedia types and free-thinking beings
