.. is from a Diane Arbus photo titled (something like)'Child with Grenade in Central Park' - taken some time in the late 50s/early 60s - it's in several of the selections of her work.
So it's interesting that someone now reads is as an Isreali child.
incidentially they're "toy" grenades(who gives a kid toy grenades to play with?!). if anyones interested you can see the original pieces on this page down at the iffley ramps(meadow lane).
I was told by a friend that they knew the person who had done the stencil and that's what it was. They seemed pretty sure so I assumed they were right. Obviously I/they were wrong!
