Dancing on Injustice at Labour Conference

(Sat 25.09.04) In tribute to a little remembered bible verse where Christians are told to "Dance Upon Injustice", a group who were in Brighton for the Labour Conference demo's did just that. From 7pm to 1am they put on a club night in a seafront bar with the aim of raising awareness of "trade injustices" (or the effects of capitalism, as some might put it).

Well, not much dancing was done, not atleast until the point I left, but a good time was had by all and a few of the youth of Brighton wandered in for a look. The event was free (but donations were very welcome), like all the best things in life. Much of the literature on the tables was from the groups who are teaming up for two initiatives this year. The first is the vote for Trade Justice, which has its official launch tomorrow, and the other is the "make poverty history" campaign planned for next year, around the time of the G8 and UK EU presidency. Other groups have other initiatives up their sleaves, but at least the Christians round here are up to something better than George Bush and his imperialist sermonising.
