Say No to Star Wars in North Yorkshire
RORS | 25.09.2004 19:02 | Sheffield
People from Sheffield joined a large gathering, organised by Yorkshire CND, at RAF Fylingdales in North Yorkshire today. The event was part of Keep Space for Peace Week when demonstrations are being held around the world to say NO to Star Wars and NO to space weapons.
Speakers included Thom Yorke of Radiohead and Dave Knight of Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space.
The demonstration moved to the entrance of the base and then took advantage of a newly discovered right of way to enter the property and walk right up to the Radar. There a communication was read out from Alaska, where people were mounting a similar protest today at the Star Wars installation there.
Other events in Keep Space for Peace Week include:
Saturday 2 October 2004
2004 - SPACE ODDITY Demonstration at Menwith Hill US base
and
Rally and demonstration at Croughton RAF/USAF base, near Oxford.
