Eviction Alert for the Nursery Social Centre tomorrow 9:00 am
The Nursery Social Centre Collective | 20.09.2004 14:06 | Free Spaces
The Nursery Social Centre is on high eviction alert. People are urgently needed to support us from 9:00am tomorrow, Tuesday 21st September 2004
We have been served an eviction notice (attached) to leave the building by 10:00am, in 24 hours time. This is simply not sufficient time nor warning for us to leave the building with all our possessions. We are calling a peaceful demonstration at the Nursery from 9:00am tomorrow. There will be a breakfast of tea coffee and cake for everyone who can support us. People are very welcome to come and stay this evening if that's more convenient. Please come and support us!

In the meantime we are personally going to visit the deputy leader of Birmingham City Council to ask him to defer the eviction to a more reasonable time frame. No senior councillors have been available for comment over the phone or through email this morning. The Bailiffs who have been available to talk over the phone say they can be instructed by Hari Toor or senior Councillors to stop the eviction tomorrow if they are contacted this afternoon.
Please contact the following people as quickly as possible to defer the eviction to a more reasonable date.
Councillors Whitby, Hemming, Godfrey Holder and Mr. Toor have the authority to contact the bailiffs before 5:00pm today to defer the eviction and negotiate with us a suitable timeframe to leave the building.
We cannot emphasise enough that this eviction will displace at least 3 technically homeless people back on the streets. They have not been given enough time to get their possessions together to move out. Let's hope Birmingham City Council can avert it's decision to evict homeless people back onto the streets.
Mike Whitby - Leader of Birmingham City Council - 0121 303 2130
John Hemming - Deputy Leader 0121 303 4204 (lead officer - 0121 303 3803)
The cabinet office - 0121 303 3000
Peter Jones - 0121 303 3844
Godfrey Holder - Property Services 0121 303 3880/0121 303 4664
Mr. Hari Toor - Legal Services 0121 303 3676/0121 303 2219
