Kerry's ability
19.09.2004 23:07
Kerry not only took the bait, but even failed to execute the debate on homeland security with any degree of success. It is a depressing reflection on the state of democracy in the west that both Blair and Bush face so little in the form of domestic oppostion. It is truely strange that whilst hundreds of thousands of people may pour into the streets the opposition parties simply have been unable to translate this movement into any effective political counter.
Let us hope the future holds more in the way of both public support, and perhaps even more importantly, competant opposition leaders able to take advantage of it.

You seem to have noticed the convergence of politicians of notionally disparate groups. Thats what power does, look up 'public choice theory' for one explanation. Democracy is not meant to be about others making decisions anyhow, but people making decisions, even when they have representatives. It was imperial Rome that invented the system of elective oligarchy currently masquerading as democracy in order to placate popular demands for athenian-style democracy. We've been placated for a good couple of thousand years, its about time we establish a society worthy of the term 'democracy', no rulers!
democracies don't have rulers
