gm debate roderickX, 09.09.2004 11:52 here is the re-posting becAUSE of the data loss the other file seems to have experienced.with respect i attended a public meeting entitled:
GM farm scale evalutions and env data 2004: the science behind the headlines...
this is my brief report,,

the original question possed by Mr.M. Meacher, 1998, was

"How will growing GM crops effect farmland wildlife?"

this was the basis for the study commisioned on behalf of DEFRA

the total budget was approx 5.9million uk pounds

the Royal Society Journal Published the study/ data, in a 150 page report. i will attempt to obtain a copy

the study was done, i quote, " '[with a mind to] create' ...informed farming practice."

...speaker: Chris Pollack

Chair of ACRE

DIRECTOR OF GRASSLAND AND ENV RESEARCHetc...

-hericide resistance/ tolerant crops__-...........Prof Joe.Perry _ of

Ruthumstead Institute1840-1990 the Ruthumstead Institute concentrated on plant proccess and

since 1990 has been involved in investigating farm scale proccess's. he talked about interesing projects like the beetle bank and entomology_including:LEAF: linking environment and farming..

…farming sector speaker said, he recently became aware of the impact of farming on the landscape and sees this as a new challenge

"the djinni's out of the bottle." Quote. there are, he did, proposal for dual strategy farm practice. organic bio-diversity study released l8r this year

a member of th audience mentioned that it is relevant to investigate the: set aside data...

calls from the floor for a broader study to include the effects of GM on mamals (maybe also to include pollen effects, allergies etc...)

X.. said no to a dichotomus farming practice and land management trend. i said, here here

GOV.../ says novel aggri-sys/ have th potential for lessening th ENV footprint of farming wether this include GM tech or not. and that this IS desirable. Quote: "figuring out how is possibly easier thasn working out the costings..." quote

gene flow data.. science magazine nov 03 shela Anderson, of the N>E>R>C> says there was a four year study. ACRE says there have never been any liscences given for GM versions of th BT soil virus in th UK and that they have not been cleared for commercial use. (in th UK)
