Sunday afternoon walk / towpath tea party
Sunday 5th Sept, a guided walk along the Kennet and Avon canal to view key sites of the proposed A36/A46 link road route. This resurrected road scheme is the next bottleneck from the hard fought road that trashed Solsbury Hill in the 1990's. It is still at the proposal stage, and has not been approved. Let's make sure it gets kicked out, as it did back in the 1990's for being tooo environmentally damaging. This road would only generate yet more traffic, not solve the traffic problems and trash this precious landscape.
Two walk routes are available: a shorter one and half hour, and an extended walk of two and half to three hours.
Start: 2pm at the George Pub car park in Bathampton, near Bath.
The walk will take in the Bathmapton meadows through which the proposed link road would plough. There will be a pitstop at the point where the road would soar 20-30 meters above the canal. Here local boaters will be serving teas, cakes and other food (bring a few £). There will also be some fun and games for the young and young at heart.
The extended walk will continue along the towpath, up onto Bathampton Down, and finish back at the George.
Please bring stout shoes and rain gear in case of showers.
