Athens Report

Back home now after spending the last two weeks in Athens for the Olympics where I was assisting the Polish athletes as an interpreter. What a wonderful event, nations coming together, living and working toward a common goal. The Greek people could not have been more welcoming and the facilities were just fantastic.
More than any other event I have attended the Olympics makes me realise how world peace can be achieved through the elimination of international boundaries, in effect one world nation with a single government. The atmosphere in the athlete’s village was one of shared joy and mutual respect. A true meeting of minds and bodies.
The opening ceremony was the highlight with the cheer for the Iraqi athletes the largest of all. The Iraqis were deeply moved and some had tears in their eyes as they stood in the centre. The US wrestling team threw a party for them on the second night in the main restaurant and when Iraqi footballer Ahmed Manajid stood up to make a speech he left everyone in tears with his tale of believing he would never play for Iraq after being beaten by Uday Hussain.
Unfortunately I have had to return early because of family commitments but my ticket to China is already booked.
We can build a free world with no borders the Olympics shows us how.
