International Animal Rights Gathering 2004
Tonbridge, Kent 3rd-6th September

Hi all
For those planning to come to the 2004 gathering, can you please read the following update.

1) NO DOGS. The site is a working sanctuary and it will not be fair to the animals living there. sorry, but this is not a rule we can bend or make exceptions to.

2) We have now updated the website with a lot more details on what is happening at the gathering at our website (www.ar2004.info), including a provisional timetable of workshops and general notes on the gathering itself. Please check it out. Those who have requested material by post, it will be with you shortly.

If you are coming but not told us, please let us know how many and for how long - this is important as numbers are continually growing and we need to arrange for food, space and other logistic issues.

3) New workshop added:
Fighting the International Fur Trade - Sat 5.45-7pm
A chance for anti-fur activists from all over the world to swap information, tactics, ideas and experiences of fighting the fur trade.

Similarly, there will be opportunities to discuss what your group/campaign/country are doing, so please bring videos for us to show as part of this. Saturday night will be set aside for this, and their will be space for showing videos/DVDs on Friday and Sunday nights.

4) We are looking for people to help us out with a creche. If you are willing to be involved with this side of things, please get in touch.

5) We are still waiting to here from the Government whether they will allow Jerry Vlasak and some other speakers will be permitted to enter the UK to give a talk at this gathering. This matter is waiting to be resolved and we will keep people updated when we know more ourselves.

6) There is a lot of media attention regarding the gathering. Since we are not keen on undercover journalists wandering around the site, we have taken the decision that the best way to deal with this situation is to have an open hour when the media will be invited in. This will take place on Sunday morning 10.30-11.30, during the following workshops "campaigning for the over 50s", "hunt-sabbing" and "self-defense". There will be space set aside for those who do not want to be filmed.

We accept that this is not the most ideal solution, but considering the various issues in the UK at the moment we feel that this is the best solution to minimise the problem and can be to the movement’s advantage. Avoiding the press altogether is not a practical approach.

7) Journalists planning to cover this event are required to contact us in advance so we can make arrangements for you to attend. You will not be allowed to wander in and out at whim.

Other than that, we look forward to meeting everyone campaigning for the animals at the Gathering in a few weeks.
