SWP are the same as Searchlight-working for the state.

Tom Cecil | 21.08.2004 20:56 | Anti-racism | Indymedia | World

Recent events and the clear and arrogant way in which they have conducted themselves is despicable.

It's been quite clear for a long time that the SWP are not only infiltrated by the state but are doing the states own bloody work, organized from the highest level. Their position and lack of solidarity with activists who have worked with them is another example of the need to avoid ANYTHING to do with them.

Recent events and the clear and arrogant way in which they have conducted themselves is despicable.

Anti-fascist work is the most important work we have at this point in time. The SWP can't be trusted with any info about anything to do with it.

Do not give these people any info, names, address's etc as you don't know where it may end up.

These people are the same lackey scum as Searchlight.

Revolutionary socialists they are not.

More of the same ...zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Oh no, ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Not more abtractions in the 11th dimension.

There was a recent thread on this topic:
Fascist Infiltration  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2004/08/296467.html

A party doesn't have to be infiltrated by state agents to do the work of the state. The SWP does the work of the state as the Labour Party does, or the Tory Party does. This is ironic because they SWP claim they want to see the state overthrown whereas the other two dont.

The the SWP act, at best, as a break on movements, at worst, they either try to control or destroy them. If gaining control the campaign/movement will be just kept ticking over, eventually, wound up, or mothballed, e.g. Anti-Nazi League, or Socialist Alliance .. currently Globalise Resistance, RESPECT will both have disapeared within a year.
The SWP are probably acting with the best of intentions, however they act in this way because of their religious like faith in their Leninist Party and its leaders, not because of state agents or infiltrators, etc.

Everyone knows The SWP are not a threat to the State, but they have been a threat to the rest of the left, although I dont think they are a real threat to the anti-capitalist movement. But that is the area in which I feel we need to be vigilant. That is where the state will put in a lot of resources.

I noticed on another thread the WOMBLES: see  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2004/08/296631.html
are putting events, some about security, which I am sure will be very good and useful to individuals and organisations, since they, like many others in the Anarchist Movement have had a lot of experience at the sharpe end. I am not a memeber but have been to a couple of their thingies in the past. They do not take the hysterical approach that I fear "Tonm Cecil" is in danger of doing, above.

Why is Indymedia keeping this on the newswire? It says nothing important, just more SWP bashing....

Sectarian Rubbish

22.08.2004 13:24

I agree, only sectarians and the right will take comfort from this episode. This is not the first time and it won't be the last that progressive movements are infiltrated by forces hostile to it. That is the price we pay for operating openly in this society. History has shown that secret, sectarian conspiracies get nowhere - Red Brigades / Baader-Meinhof anybody??? I know that it is the silly season, but can't we move on to talking about something that is actually relevant to working peoples lives?

Clarification

For those new to Trot politics, "sectarian" means "not in my sect".

Who do you think this sort of nonsense serves?

22.08.2004 21:19

Youmay feel that the role of a revolutionary is to soend every waking moment attacking other socialists, some of us think that what matters is uniting to build an organisation that can win workers respect is the key.

We've made a start in Scotland with the SSP, why not try it yourself?

tiresome

it's like a fucking school playground - bash them, no, bash them, they're not as right on/revolutionary/non-hierarchical/blah blah blah as ME

And try searching for negative articles on Searchlight, about their 'collaboration with the state' etc - you'll find the info on a whole host of fascist web sites!

Time to break with Searchlight

23.08.2004 15:37

The call to break with Searchlight is not a fascist one (as the author above well knows)

A glance at any Anarchist website (such as the Class ar one above) a glance at the publications put out in the past by Anti-Fascist Action, and a glance at the Antifa UK website will demonstrate this.

Refreshing

Sect One, Dog on a String - my thoughts exactly. Indymedia is far too often caught in schoolground slanging matches. Sadly, it transfers over into the real world as well... I've seen anarchists and Trots physically assaulting each other in a demo which was billed 'Unity for Mumia Abu Jamal'. Farcical.

A lot of 'non-activist' people are well up for radical politics, even if they don't recognise it as such - at the moment a wide range of opinion is moving against war, privatisation and corporate greed. But the progressive, left and anarchist movements will always be regarded with suspicion whilst we squabble like spolit brats.
