Result of the referendum in Venezuela
we are everywhere | 16.08.2004 08:34 | Venezuela | Social Struggles
The result of the referendum is a victory for Chavez and the bolivarian revolution: 58% voted for the NO (to the rejection of Chavez). People celebrating on the street.
The official result, given just a few minutes ago, is 58% for the NO (means for Chavez). But this is just counting the votes of poeple that voted by machines. There are quiet a lot more votes from people that live in rural areas and that voted by paper that had not yet been counted. In these areas people are very poor and mostly on the side of the government. So the final result will be probably more than 60%. The opposition wants negociations because of the "small differennce", but people don`t accept that. The question is now if the opposition accepts the result or not. There are tens or eveen hundreds of thousend people out on the street right now, celebrating the victory of the revolution.

I'm really glad. I hope it doesn't turn violent now, though. I think it would be the last thing the US want, however, after having fucked up all their other oil suppliers.
Great

The US must invade to get rid of this corrupt and undemocratic population and replace them with better people who can be relied on to vote how we tell them.
