Urgent - Protest for Naseh Ghafor

Stu | 11.08.2004 16:15 | Anti-racism | Sheffield

Naseh Ghafor has been on hunger strike for 5 weeks in Burngreave. He has sewn up his lips and is refusing medical attention. He believes he will be killed if he is deported to Iraq. His father and brother were killed there and his sister and mother are missing. David Blunkett says it is safe for him to return to Iraq. It is not.

Protest against Naseh's threatened deportation. 12.30pm Wednesday 11th August Burngreave Street, Burngreave.

Burngreave Residents Support Naseh

11.08.2004 19:26

The protest has been initiated by the chair of the local Tenants and Residents Association and myself (I live in Burngreave). We want to show that local people support Naseh Ghafor's protest against deportation and that Blunkett does not have our support.
I was pleasantly surprised at the level of local support for the roadblock protest of Burngreave Road last Saturday night.

We will, of course, be sensitive to the wishes of Naseh's friends, relatives and the local Kurdish community.

Tomorrow's protest will meet at the bottom of Burngreave Street, at the junction with Burngreave Road at 12.30pm.
