The Weather Underground: Film screening in Cambridge

Voluntary Slave | 04.08.2004 22:30 | Cambridge

“Hello, I’m going to read a declaration of a state of war.” – Bernardine Dohrn, 1969
Showing of 'The Weather Underground' at 7:30 pm, Sun 15th August, The Geldart, Ainsworth Street, Cambridge

In 1969 a group of anti-war protestors pledged to bring the Vietnam War home to America. Calling themselves The Weather Underground Organisation, they cut themselves of from their friends and families and went underground. They sprung Timothy Leary from prison, bombed the Chicago Police Department and the Pentagon. This film tells their story using their own words, both then and now, in archive footage and interviews. Why did they think the violent overthrow of the American government was necessary, and, after years spent on the run or in prison, do they now regret their actions?
“You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” – Bob Dylan

The Geldart isn't very easy to find but it is a nice little pub tucked away fairly close to Cafe Afrika. Here's a map:  http://tinyurl.com/6sqpj
