Black people have been here in Nottingham for over 500 years. You would think that they could claim they lived here by now. But discrimination is so obviously, still an issue. There is ever increasing violence, here in Nottingham. Well it's a city. But there has been an increase were race has played a part.

Anti-Racist Demo, Nottingham

Black people have been here in Nottingham for over 500 years. You would think that they could claim they lived here by now. But discrimination is so obviously, still an issue. There is ever increasing violence, here in Nottingham. Well it's a city. But there has been an increase were race has played a part. People beaten to the ground, simply for being of another colour. God! 21st century, or what ...... Anyway folks locally have had enough, and wanted to protest to draw more attention to the issue, and to prompt the authorities for a little more action.

Met at the Forest Recreation Ground at 12.00, hundred gathered, then we marched into town, for a rally in the Market Square

Various speakers outlined what's been happening, council say they will evict tenents who have been involved in such attacks. oh and the Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire, Mr Steve Green, says they're trying harder [he's the chap in suit]. So what's everyone being doing up to now?

So, that all alright then. another 500 years, we'll have it all sorted.

Useful statistics

"But there has been an increase were race has played a part. People beaten to the ground, simply for being of another colour. God! 21st century, or what!"

It would be fair to note that according to the crime recording statistics, 6 out of 7 crimes where race was a motivator, the victims were white.

Racism is something that effects all races that make up society and the narrow minded belief that 'whites' are always the perpetrators is in itself racist.

Those marching

02.08.2004 09:35

It was interesting to see how this event has been presented above. The impression being that local people were in some way so enraged by a racism problem that they spontainiously decided to march in protest. The reality is different.

The people in the pictures have almost all got something in common, they work for the Council funded "Race Action Unit" an organisation famous for it waste of money in the area and which is being wound down because of its failure. Council funding is being transfered to a new CRE organised unit. The final straw was the revelation that the leader of the unit (seen in picture two) was found to have enjoyed a three week "fact finding" visit to Antigua with his wife and three children, all funded by public money.

Pictures don't lie . . . . .!

Complete Fucking Crap

What crap is this ? There was no rally in Nottingham against a race problem, these tossers are being thrown out because they spent a lot of money doing nothing. If anything they made the situation in the city worse, linking race to all manner of crimes where race was not a factor.

This is an industrial dispute where crap staff are being replaced by better ones.

Straightforward report of a good community protest against racist attacks. But wait, for some reason this one sets off ALL our friendly neighbourhood trolls! Evidently photos of black and Asian people (some of them women, aargh!) standing up and speaking out touches a few raw nerves...

So we get: the old NF/BNP lies about how white people are the real victims of racism and how anti-racism is anti-white (which of course contradict each other but that's never been a problem for fascists), some baffling comment about police smiling, a slightly subtler/cleverer divide-and-rule thing about how we musn't do anything about racism because it might alienate 'white workers' (as if there isn't a problem already if people are defining themselves as 'white workers'), and finally, even our old Bush-lovin' Arab-hatin' pal Commentator pops up with a really out-there stab at the Palestinians.

Personally I'd like to see someone post up a speech with photos by a Muslim woman, simply to see the trolls die of apoplexy!

The point I and others were making (well some of them) was that this march was not about racism, it was presented as such here on the posting but the reality was these people were using race as a justification for losing their jobs.

They were appointed to deal with racism but they were bad at it and have been replaced by better people, rather than facing up to this they have attempted to use race as the justification for their removal of funding.

Racism is a problem that needs to be dealt with, just because a person belongs to a racial minority does not mean they are skilled at dealing with that problem.

To present the march as some sort of spontanious uprising against racism in the city was simply a lie
