In a startling accusation, nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu has alleged that Jerusalem was behind the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy, who was exerting pressure on the then Israeli head of state to shed light on the Dimona nuclear plant.

In defiance of a ban on talking to the media and meeting with foreigners, Vanunu is said to have made the accusation in an interview to London-based Al-Hayat newspaper.

As per the interview published in newspaper's Arabic supplement Al-Wassat yesterday, Vanunu said according to "near-certain indications", Kennedy was assassinated due to "pressure he exerted on then head of government, David Ben-Gurion, to shed light on Dimona's nuclear reactor".

"We do not know which irresponsible Israeli Prime Minister will take office and decide to use nuclear weapons in the struggle against neighboring Arab countries," he is quoted to have said, adding, "What has already been exposed about the weapons Israel is holding can destroy the region and kill millions."

The whistleblower, who was released in April after 18 years of imprisonment on charges of treason for divulging state secrets, also said that the reactor in Dimona, could become a second "Chernobyl", Israili media reported. He said an earthquake could cause fissures to the core and that would cause a massive radiation leak threatening millions.

Vanunu warned that Jordan should test the residents along the border with Israel for exposure to radiation and give them pills just like the Jewish state decided to do for its citizens.

Criticising the visit of head of the Atomic Energy Agency, Mohammed el-Baradei, to Israel early this month, he said, "He (Baradei) should have refused to visit Israel (because) he was not allowed to inspect the nuclear reactor."

It was not yet clear how al-Hayat did the interview, which the publication claimed is the first with Vanunu since his release. If it turns out that he in fact gave such an interview in violation of the conditions laid down for his release, severe sanctions might be imposed on him.

An Israeli Justice Ministry statement said "the statements that Vanunu made will be examined and if it is determined that he violated the law or his restrictions, then steps against him will be considered."

"The opinions on Vanunu are divided," said Ra'anan Gissin, a spokesman for Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. "Some say let him speak and it adds to the ambiguity policy, while others say the more he speaks the more he raises tensions, particularly in the current atmosphere."

Brushing aside the latest allegations, he said that serious people understood that Vanunu was speaking nonsense and his comments on JFK were not worthy of a reaction.

Vanunu to be questioned on possible parole violation

By Yuval Yoaz, Roni Singer, and Gideon Alon, Haaretz Correspondents, and Haaretz Service

Nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu is to be questioned by police in the coming days, in connection with a possible violation of the terms of his release from jail.
An interview to foreign media given by Vanunu is in contravention of one of the conditions of his release in April 2004 after a term of 18 years for revealing details of Israel's nuclear program to a British newspaper.

The restrictions include a ban on speaking to the media and travelling abroad.

Vanunu will be questioned by a special team of Israel Police, the Shin Bet security service and the State Prosecution, Israel Radio reported Thursday.

On Monday, the High Court of Justice rejected Vanunu's petition against these restrictions.

The court ruled there was no doubt Vanunu was willing to expose classified information regarding the Dimona reactor and is as determined as ever to do so. This backed prosecution claims that Vanunu is still a security risk and has shown he is willing go public with any more information he can find.

In his defense, Vanunu said he had disclosed all material in his possession about Israel's nuclear capabilities and there was therefore no justification in restricting him beyond his prison sentence.

Two interviews have so far been published this week with Vanunu in the foreign press.

In an interview published Thursday in the London-based Arabic weekly Al-Wassat, Vanunu is quoted as saying "Israel possesses between 100-200 nuclear weapons including a neutron bomb and hydrogen bombs." He is also quoted as saying that are "near-certain indications" that Israel was behind the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.

In an interview publisher Sunday with the London-based Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat, Vanunu is quoted as saying that the Dimona nuclear reactor endangers the lives of millions throughout the Middle East.

Vanunu told the paper that a strong earthquake in the region may crack the reactor, causing radioactive leakage that would result in the death of millions.

Vanunu also told the paper that the Jordanian government should prepare for possible leaks from the reactor, just as Israel has plans to distribute iodine anti-radiation pills to residents living close to the nuclear reactor in Dimona.

He said that Jordanians living close to the border with Israel should be examined for possible nuclear radiation, explaining that the Hashemite Kingdom is particularly at risk from the reactor as it operates mainly when "the wind blows toward Jordan."

He said he does not believe that the United States and European nations will pressure Israel into revealing the full extent of its nuclear capabilities.

Vanunu also took the opportunity to blast United Nations nuclear watchdog chief Mohammed El Baradei for visiting Israel earlier this month and not putting any pressure on it to open up its nuclear program to international inspection.

"He should have done here what he did in Iraq," he was quoted as saying.

Hahahahahaaaaaa...

Yes, The Mossad killed Kennedy... Louis Armstrong was the man on the grassy knoll... the Jooos used him as an undercover agent after finding out he was really a Rabbi. The plot was devised by Elvis Presley and Glenn Miller, who were both working undercover and have had to keep a low profile ever since...

zionists under your bed!

Easy to make stupid jibes

it's easy to make jokes about something like this, yours is particularly pathetic .
But someone had Kennedy bumped off ! the circumstances surrounding the assasination
are very dubious. who ever did was good at their job, ie assasination.
They managed to bump off the most important man in the world.
So if your looking for experts your chose would be pretty limited.
The Mafia or some other form of organized crime perhaps ?
I would say that Mossad had just the right qualifications after all they have taken out
quite a few nazis in various parts of the world and are involved in Skull Duggery
just about everywhere.
Of course you could publish some serious evidence to prove that this story is a fabrication
and that Mossad couldn't possibly have been involved in the murder of JFK.

"Of course you could publish some serious evidence to prove that this story is a fabrication and that Mossad couldn't possibly have been involved in the murder of JFK. "

Or you could do the sensible thing and show respectable evidence that this story is anything other than the latest piece of anti Jewish propoganda that now pases for news on IM.

.

but passes for news everywhere else

30.07.2004 12:39

(.)is missing the point here. This story is published first in the mainstream arab and israeli press where it passes for news . Does everything that passes for news in Haaretz
have to be rejected by IM as anti-semetism. What strange world does (.) love in.

Granted MVs claim is unusual but you dont have to be an anti-semite to believe Israels governers have been involved in a number of dodgy operations in the past and continue to be so.

Not convinced

Far from missing the point it shines bright and clear. There is an anti Jewish agenda on Indymedia that only the most blinkered Nazi would be unable to see. The source for this story is well known in the region, please do not pretend it is a reputable news organisation.

There was a time when Indymedia was an excellent source of unbiased independedent news and articles of interest. For those of us with Left of Centre political views it provided an excellent free service.

Now of course it is different, most readers are aware of the changes in the "volunteers" who maintain the site with a shift to a pro Arab, pro Muslim bias which allows the most appaling lies to be told about Jews and have them listed as though they were true.

There have been numerous examples:

The protests outside M&S where numbers of those attending are as a matter of course exagerated.

The constant linking of Jews with Zionism (do some of you even understand the difference ?)

A constant campaign of editorial control which has seen any posts which illustrate Arab crime being removed within minutes of post.

Israel is a free democratic country which seeks to live in peace with its neighbours, it has fought three conventinal wars and an ongoing terrorist war, it has won everyone.

Reply to this post if you wish, I will not be reading it because like the majority of the political Left in Britain we are sick of the lies told here and the bias that passes as "control".

God be with you.

If The Shoe Fits...

The U.S. has been Israel's lapdog ever since the JFK assassination. This would explain quite a lot.

az

Does that mean we can't mention ISRAEL ?

31.07.2004 07:39

wether or not Mossad organized the murder of JFK is really that important maybe they actually pulled some of the triggers. The fact is that when a big 'op like bumping off JFK or 911 is going down everyone has to be in agreement. Like all the U.S and important western secret services have to be down with it.
Mossad's record is second to none their success rate is very high, as opposed to the blundering brits and yankkkees. Remember Entebbe , they flew out to Africa and zapped a load of PLO released the hostages and made a bundle from the film rights. I'm not joking I consider the Israeli armed forces to be the best in the world, of course being anti war and violence I could easily say the worst but that would leave open to the "your anti semitic, anti jewish" lobby. But my ansa to them would be that if Israel wants to take a prominent place on the world stage and mix it with the big world powers, which it obviously does, then it and the world jewish community that supports it should be ready to take the critiscm that will be leveled at it by folks like myself.
Israel and the middle east is one of the biggest issues in the world at the moment and should continue to be well covered by contributions to Indymedia UK much to the disgust of the all powerfull Zionist lobby.
I whole heartedly support the palestinians who are fighting for their freedom but at the same time feel sympathy for the Israeli civilians who get blown to pieces by suicide bombers, unfortunately it seems that both sides manage to murder lot's of children which is sickening .

Of course Israel was involved

01.08.2004 17:27

Of course israel was involved. Just as they were involved in the attack on the USS Liberty, just as they have been involved in asssasinations and criminal activity and interference in the foriegn policy of other nation states going back to the foundation of Israel in the 40's. Israel was and always has been a terrorist nation.
