90 sex or violent ofenders were living in south yorkshire last year. All have been branded "very high risk" by the authorities. Twelve have been sent back to prison because they broke rules governing their behaviour and another has been convicted of attempting to commit another offence.
The south yorkshire public protection unit has revealed that the number of people on the sex offenders register in south yorkshire has risen to 682. 21 of those have broken the rules that govern those people who live on the sex offenders register.
The PPU regards the statistics as a success, with only one of the 90 high risk offenders going back to court for a further offence. It also believes the rising number of people on the sex offenders' register is because legislation is relatively recent, with figures yet to reach a balance.
The figres speak for themselves.
