A 20 year scheme to move up to five million tonnes of rock from hills above Pontypool South Wales has been proposed.
Plan reclamation of former opencast workings and recovery of secondary aggregates, Tir Pentwys, Hafodrynys.
Application Number 03/P/09336
The removal of these aggregates will result in 100 or more lorries a day travelling on already busy roads very close to residents homes, this is expected to last at least 20 years, it is calculated that near by residents can expect a lorry to pass right outside their homes every 6 minuets.
Preferred route:
Farm road Talywain,Commercial Rd Talywain,Church Rd Talywain,Lodge Rd Abersychan,Foundry Rd (Bob a Day) Abersychan, Union street Abersychan, Broad street Abersychan Snatchwood Rd Abersychan/Pontnewynydd, St Lukes Road Pontnewynydd,Pontypool bypass
This is absolutely disgraceful that profit is being put before peoples quality of life. Time is running out for us to oppose these plans. I am also concerned that the procedure for informing the public has been under performed, many people in the area are still unaware of the proposals and the impact it will have on their lives. There should be an immediate inquiry before the plans are pursued.
No doubt that if the plan is passed then a few years down the line we will be told we need a bypass and how could we complain with the high levels of traffic
