Noise demo in solidarity with Harmondsworth refugees imprisoned in Salford

No One is illegal: No Borders | 24.07.2004 21:35 | Repression

Following the recent fire at Harmondsworth detention centre refugees and migrants have been dispersed to prisons and detention centres across the country, including HMP Forest Bank in Salford. On Sunday 1st August there will be a noisy protest in solidarity with those imprisoned.

A riot broke out on Monday 19th July at Harmondsworth following the suicide of a detainee who was facing imminent removal. "Tornado" teams, (previously called 'Mufti Squads", specially trained prison personal, equipped with riot shields and batons), entered Harmondsworth to restore order. There were 441 detainees on site which have been dispersed to detention centres and prisons across the country (for more info see  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2004/07/295098.html).

In support of those imprisoned for nothing more than having their asylum claims refused we are going to make some noise. Join the demonstration against the governments racist and authoritarian treatment of refugees and migrants on Sunday 1st August, 1pm:

outside HMP Forest Bank
Agecroft Road
Pendlebury
Manchester
M27 8FB

Does anybody have more info on the people involved, like names and which prisons they're in? We'd like to send cards/letters/messages of support and post the info on our website to encourage other people to do the same... Brighton Anarchist Black Cross
