TAKE BACK THE SQUARE!

kalabine | 19.07.2004 17:51

Sunday 25th July sees a rally in Trafalgar Square at 1pm, by the Islamic
fundamentalist group Al-Mahajiroun.
The National Front have called a counter demonstration.

The new anti-fascist group Anti-Fa sees very little difference between the
fascism of the National Front and the Islamic fundamentalism of Al-Mahajiroun.
Indeed their views on gay people, Jews, Women, Trades Unionists, Anarchists etc would appear to be virtually identical.

Meet outside the national Gallery at 12.30pm.

TAKE BACK THE SQUARE!

Ken Livingstone organised today’s event. Recently he also organised a conference where one of the principal guests was Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi. Many observers have described al-Qaradawi as a moderate, whilst others see him as a fanatic. We understand that the majority of Muslims don’t share all his ideas, yet his arrival kicked up a huge kerfuffle. Far fewer Muslims share the weird ideas of more fundamentalist Islamists, whose ideas are – frankly – barking. For example, the loons of al-Mahajiroun don’t consider there to be any mosques in the UK. Just as the NF are not representative of white people, al-Mahajiroun are out on the fringes of British Islam. But just how nutty are they?

You’ll have a chance to find out in Trafalgar Square next Sunday, 25 July, when al-Mahajiroun hold a Rally for Islam. This is not a fun-filled day out for all the family, unless your family is particularly patriarchal, homophobic, sexist and misogynistic, anti-Semitic and believes in killing everyone who doesn’t agree with you. Neither is it an introduction to what you’d understand as Islam, but to a political group seeking to use Islam for their own sordid ends. To their credit, al-Mahajiroun promise some miracles in the Square! It seems that atheists, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs and bizarrely socialists will renounce their ideas and embrace Islam, quite spontaneously. It should be a sight worth seeing!

The highlight of the day, though, is likely to be the appearance of the National Front, who will definitely not be converting to Islam. Many of their ideas differ little from those of al-Mahajiroun, especially as regards Jews, women and gays and lesbians. They’re not turning up to cheer on the fundies – they’ll be out for their blood. The NF will also use the day as an opportunity to demand the expulsion of all Muslims from the UK and the destruction of all mosques in Britain.

ANTIFA opposes both the obscene fascism of the National Front and the apocalyptic extremism of fundamentalist Islam. Neither offers ordinary people – already suffering from bosses, councils and landlords – any solution. We are holding a counter-demo against the NF and al-Mahajiroun, meeting outside the National Gallery at 12.30pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

Is this the beggining of the end?

22.07.2004 18:23

It had to happen sooner or later. The idiots cannot see past the end of their noses that the Hosts are not up for Islam. The Brits will take a lot of shite but when the ire is up, the IRE is UP!

Fun day out for fascists

25.07.2004 14:59

There were two fascist demonstrations in Trafalgar square. The one near the gallery was a family day out, 30 or so polite NF holding flags and being snide to the anti-fascist demonstrator.

The other was 'united british association', what appears to be a 'non racist' front group for the National Front. The 50 or so of them handed out leaflets that incited violence against 'terrorist' muslims and called for all fundamentalist muslims to be deported, they also tried to break police lines and get onto the road, they were much more animated in their chanting though their only slogan was 'UBA'. I think they hoped to link up with the other NF demo.

There was one anarchist plackard 'no gods, no masters' and 4 anti fascists 2 of whom said nothing all day. I arived (with the plackard) to see the police warning the anti fascist demonstrator that he would be arrested if he swore again. We went to find out what the UBA were doing.

We decided to leave before the NF dispersed.

The UBA did not and have never wanted to join in with the NF we are a non racist organisation , who just want Islamic extremists booted out of the country , now we know that it isnt going to happen overnight , and by peacefully demonstrating we hope to get the majority of the public on our side, was you with the little group that tried confronting us , all 6 of you , trust me you will need a lot more than that to stop the UBA from demonstrating , and why did you see the need to do this anyhow , are you for the extremists ?
By all means come look on the site , but be warned dont try any of that shit again , not really worth it was it , you made yourselves look very silly , bouncing up and down like zebedee , and why if you dislike us , do you see the needto dress the same as us , (talking bout lad in Fred Perry top)

cheers

who decides

Your claim to be 'non racist' is mealy mouthed at best, it implies your not anti-racist. To pick on one section of the muslim community is a type of racism.

A leaflet that says:
Lets "welcome back" the Guantanamo traitors.

Is clearly inciting violence. Its a hollow threat intended as no more than a polemic to draw violent racists to your group. Deporting extreemist is a vague long term aim, what do activists of your small organisation do in the mean time? You 'encourage' extreemists to leave? I wonder if beating up kids would be more likely to push someone into being an extreemist or more likely to make them 'go home' (to Leeds).

Perhapse I should have had a leaflet that said:
I'm not an anti-fascist, I just want to deport the trouble makers. Join me to "deal with" the class traitors.

Sikh protest against Islamist and Racist extremists

26.07.2004 10:06

Hi,

I just wanted to say that approximately TWO HUNDRED young Sikhs turned up yesterday from all over the UK to show that we will not tolerate any more the likes of al-Muhajiroun attacking our Faith and inciting hate crimes.

Due to the organising done by the Sikh youths, it was clear to the Police and the fundamentalist Islamists (who were well aware of what we were planning) that we would not allow them a platform on Sunday in the Square. This is was the main reason they cancelled.

Whoever, the anti-fascists were who came down, we applaud you. Keep up the good work :o)

After all, we are all brothers and sisters, the sooner we realise this and start to work together, the better this world will be.

The UBA at Trafalgar square were seperated from the NF,why well we are a non racist org and if you looked you`d of seen some of our members were non white. We firmly believe that being proud to be british is not racist and this is one of our objectives.I did have a chat to some of the sihks who had a banner proud to british I told them that we also had a banner proud to be british but the OB decided not to let us have a platform on the square.
I would ask you not to to cause any trouble with us,but if your anti british then unfortunately we`ll have problems with your view.
Till we meet again bye.
