The regular saturday picket of Marks & Spencer in Manchester city centre was attacked again on July 17th, by self proclaimed Zionists.

The picket of M&S supporting the palestinian people was giving out leaflets stating the facts of the Israel/ palestine situation. These include the killing of more than 650 palestinian children; Israel's violation of human rights and international law and Israel demolishing over 2,500 palestinian houses.

The Zionists arrived at around 12:30 and tried to destroy the leaflets. They pushed and threatened the people supporting the picket while two policemen on horses were just observing from across the road. The Zionists although aggresive to the people supporting palestine and human rights were not removed by the police although the police was present. One Zionist was arrested out of twenty. The people supporting the picket replied to the Zionists by shouting together "free free palestine" while a samba band of 8 members was playing.

For some reason (I suggest it is our staunch and prolonged resistance!)the Betar (Zionist 'youth' counter-demonstrating group) presence in London has cooled off lately, and the pressure is on you now. But you will see them off, that is for sure.

A luta continua!

Venceremos!

Aye, well done to the Manchester comrades. Defending democratic rights for all of us as well as exposing the M&S multinational's support for racist Israel. Just yesterday I read about this Betar mob: David Hirst's "The Gun and the Olive Branch" points out how they claimed to be acting out of principles of hadar, that is honour and chivalry, while one of its leaders wrote a newspaper column called "Journal of a Fascist". All socialists and democrats have to defend this picket. Solidarity means solidarity.
