One country hogging the pork

Anorak | 17.07.2004 19:18 | Analysis | Oxford

There is a big country with y % of the world’s population that produces 2y % of the world’s pork, and eats it.

Yes, whether you are a carnivore who would like the pork shared out, or a veggie who would like what the pigs eat shared out, they have 45% of it !

This same country produces more wheat than any other in the world.
More lamb and mutton.
More potatoes.
Even more rice.

Before making an indignant anti-capitalist reaction, we need to look carefully at some readily available recent statistics and make some simple calculations.

The country is China, and good luck to it.
