RESPECT is placed on the map

red letter | 16.07.2004 12:45

Respect comes a comfortable fourth in both by elections

RESPECT has come from no where and makes it mark on the political map. keeping both deposits and getting a respectable 12.6% in leicster, this despite the major parties throwing all their resources into campaign and a media black-out including indymedia. Respect had just 2 weeks to make grounds, they must surely be feeling that they are going somewhere.

i would urge all supporters of indymedia to make their alliance with RESPECT.

it is very likely that RESPECT will add to the councillors on 29 july with the council by election in Tower Hamlets.

On BBC news reports, instead of lumping Respect in with 'others', they had their own section! Which is pretty impressive after just 6 months!

Tower Hamlets should be a good place, possibly the best place, for Respect to campaign.

To replace one bunch of people to control our lives with another bunch is IMHO pointless.

Respect has also downplayed lots of issues in order to gain the muslim vote which IMO is blatant racism.

The whole thing stinks of opportunism to me.

I think Respect will disappear just the same way as the Socialist Alliance (anybody remember them?!?) has. This is bad because honest, trusting people have been taken in by this SWP front and some have given over their hard earned money to support this.
