Wednesday 7 July, the day in which the laws of accreditation and financing for the institutions of higher education were voted, hundreds of students occupied the streets of Valparaíso, opposed to this new intent to consummate the already advanced privatization of the public universities.
The students of the city universities agreed to march at 8:30am to arrive at the National Congress, where from 9:30am the voting began.
On Tuesday, students of the University of Valparaíso demonstrated alongside the Congress, in a candlelight vigil that lasted all night and ended with the march on Wednesday. Yesterday afternoon, clashes were registered between carabineros (Chilean cops) outside the University of Playa Ancha when students went outside to declare their anger at the plans of the government. Clashes in the University of Bío-Bío have also been registered.
