DETAILS OF DISARM DSEi ACTIONS AT FARNBOROUGH AIRSHOW

Action at Delegate’s Dinner, Tuesday 20th July, 6:30pm, Grosvenor House Hotel, 86-90 Park Lane, London (nearest station Marble Arch or Hyde Park Corner).

Farnborough Airshow Direct Action Day, Sunday 25th July – 12 onwards, follow signs from Farnborough station to public entrance or get shuttle bus organised by the airshow to the public entrance.

Farnborough International 2004 (July 19-25) in Hampshire is the most important arms fair this year. Not only is it the battleground for the sale of military aircraft and associated weapons systems but for the public acceptance of them too. At the last Farnborough in 2002 military and civilian contracts totalling over $9 billion were announced with exhibitors including murdering bastards such as BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, Rolls-Royce and Boeing queuing up to sell their latest weapons systems.

As usual with these events one of the places where contacts are made and established is at the delegate’s swanky dinner. The dinner, described as “the social event of the Airshow week” will be held in the “splendour of the Great Room at the Grosvenor House Hotel”. A presentation of a sword will also be made for a “significant contribution towards Anglo-American aerospace cooperation” and will be presented to Lord Robertson (NATO Secretary General). Their website promises “an exciting and entertaining evening”, let’s make sure we provide one!

However there is also another side to Farnborough, that of fun days out for all the family with the weekend public days. We are therefore calling a day of direct action on one of these family days to show that Farnborough is primarily an arms fair and also to state that watching the latest fighter jets is not family entertainment.

There is the option of buying tickets for the public event for £20 – see  http://www.farnborough.com for details.

Contact the organisers of Farnborough in person at: Farnborough International 2004, Duxbury House, 60 Petty France, London SW1H 9EU, 020 7227 1043,  farnborough@sbac.co.uk

we deserve to know why exactly this post contradicts the guidelines

why is this in breach of editorial guidelines?

is the Sunderland airshow a glorified arms sale?

i'm not so sure...
is it a glorification of war machines?

depends on the way the show is presented
there fore people should attend who are concerned
and make a valued, researched, analysis of the situation

although Janes defense magazine lets one know where the real
arms sales are...

Sunderland is seen as a good day out by most...
there is a air museum not far from me...[North east]
i visited it a found a real sense of how these war machines were just
crates bolted together [especailly the helicopters]
and there is an old A-bomb lying there....
it gave me a sense of proportion and reflection...

after all crates bolted together in need of defense against a tyrant
are different to a zillion dollar industry that relies on
the belief engine of patriotism and fear...

it is really sinister that indymedia would censor
organization of a legitimate protest

it says thet the original post breaks editorial guidelines!!!
i think we need to know how?

info on guidelines

erm, the phrase "This post contradicts the Editorial Guidelines and has been hidden from the newswire" which appears for this article on the 'view all page' is a standard default phrase indicating that the post was hidden from the frontpage newswire.

it was hidden cos it was a duplicate post (which is one of the reasons some postings are hidden).

looking so hard for conspiracy and infiltrating intelligence operatives taking over indymedia is taking over some people's imagination, and causing them to see conspiracy where there is none.

FYI this was discussed on the indyemdia mail lists after the person running the flamesong website wrote in and accused indymedia of censoring these posts - the duplicate post explanation was given along with URLs - yet the accusations remain on the flamesong website - hmmm.

Firstly, I have been unable to respond to the above comment 'info on guidelines' by 'info' because until very recently there has been an IndyMedia UK ban on my IP address - despite the categorical denial by IndyMedia UK.

Secondly, the comment states that:

'FYI this was discussed on the indyemdia mail lists after the person running the flamesong website wrote in and accused indymedia of censoring these posts - the duplicate post explanation was given along with URLs - yet the accusations remain on the flamesong website - hmmm.'

Unfortunately, none of this explanation was ever given to me and to make allegations that 'accusations remain' in spite of an explanation being given is clearly unreasonable. My e-mail address was available in the original mail I sent to the IndyMedia UK list and, for anybody who wanted to view the complaint on my website, there is an e-mail address there. Yet, I have, as I point out on my website, not received any explanation.

Further, originally this article was hidden with the explanation 'This post contradicts the Editorial Guidelines and has been hidden from the newswire'. Repeated articles are normally anotated with 'This repeated post has been hidden from the newswire' which tends to suggest that there was another reason to hide this article. As does the fact that at the time neither article was visible as does the article:

Where Were You ????????????????

There is an issue of unreasonable and excessive force being used by IndyMedia UK. There is stuff going on about which they are uninformed and prefer to dismiss as 'whacky conspiracy theories' rather than find out more information. An example, ever heard of 'smart dust'? If I tried to explain what it was on here, I would be pilloried as a nut. OK, just go to Google and do a search for 'smart dust'. The results don't come from 'whacky conspiracy' web sites but seats of learning and industry...
