This was posted on the Dissent Anti-g8 website forum, about an organising meeting in Edinburgh on 14th July. Thought Indymedia readers would like to read it too.

Working with other anti-G8 forces?- Scottish ESF meeting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,
Let me say first that I am not necessarily endorsing this meeting, or in any way involved in!!! I just thought people should know about it!. Anyway here is a message I just recieved from Dundee Trades Union Council.

 DundeeTuc@groups.msn.com Subject: [esf-uk-info] G8 Planning .

G8 Gleneagles

Quote:
"People are starting to discuss what we should do around the G8. A likely theme/slogan is 'Make Poverty History.'

The Scottish Mobilisation Committee for the European Social Forum, which includes 18 organisations, have organised a meeting specifically to discuss the G8. Please let as many organisations as possible know that this is taking place.

This will be on Wednesday 14th July, 7.30pm, Pakistan Community Centre (upstairs), 45 Annandale Street, (Off Leith Walk. Corner of Annandale Street and East London Street), Edinburgh."

This will be on Wednesday 14th July, 7.30pm, Pakistan Community Centre (upstairs), 45 Annandale Street, (Off Leith Walk. Corner of Annandale Street and East London Street), Edinburgh.

Comment from Dissent/enrager Forum:

This obviously represents people like the SWP/GR, Trades Union officials, Churches, NGO'o with a very different organisational and political style to those around 'Dissent' who endorse PGA hallmarks (!).

However, I don't think a war against them would be productive.

We have to acknowledge that people will have different ways to confront the G8, and different styles.

Some will want to organise in non-hierachical decentralised networks and take direct action.

Others will want to organise large, legal (ish), conventional marches and rallies, with 'respectable' organisations like Trades Unions, Churches, NGO's.

I think we need a hybrid of all of these and more.

By any (and all) means necessary!

People need to find out what other parallell but different mobilisations are doing.... and see how it can fit togther, rather than setting one up against the other.

lets call it joined up resistance?
